I did the first exercise for the D30: Exercise for Designers, Conversation with Self, and it was more difficult than I thought it would be. I don’t want to give away all of the details of what to do in the exercise, but the goal is to think about where you’ve been as a designer, where you want to go and how to focus on your strengths. It takes about an hour to complete and it’s best to get rid of all distractions so you can really think about the answers. In the book, Jim mentions that you will refer to this exercise later in the book, so it’s important to complete.
It was interesting to think about my strengths, because I’m usually so critical of myself. That was probably the hardest part of the exercise. However, I made it through the exercise and here’s the result.
